Individual Therapy for Anxiety in Relationships

Even under the best of circumstances, relationships can be challenging. But recently, you noticed you feel more lonely, sad, and anxious than usual. Although you tried to shake it off, you know this is more than the post-pandemic anxiety you have heard other people describing. You feel disconnected, misunderstood, or struggle to feel close to friends and family. There are relationships you want to improve but you cannot figure out how to fix things without doubt, mistrust, or conflict creeping in. Sometimes you wonder whether something is wrong with you, whether how you feel is “normal,” or if you are “too much” for other people to handle. Deep down, you may worry that you will never be happy and think about what it would be like if you had to live the rest of your life without the closeness, connection, and emotional intimacy you crave.

Anxiety Counseling is a Process

Therapy takes courage, commitment, and time. It is a process that has the potential to help you gain insight and understanding that can serve you for the rest of your life. You could learn to understand yourself and others better, why you interact with people in your life in specific ways, and how you contribute to the relationship dynamics, you do or do not want to be a part of. You are more capable than you may believe or realize. You can pause, take a step back, learn to process both your thoughts and emotions, and choose how you want to move forward in your life. You are not at the whim of your feelings. Nor are you destined to live a lonely or anxious life.

When we work together, you can be your whole imperfect human self – a person who can speak from your heart and not worry about judgment and criticism. For some people, this means sharing vulnerable feelings, saying things that may feel awkward or inappropriate, or saying things out loud they never shared before. I welcome you with whatever brings you to therapy and intend to meet you with the same respect, commitment, and care that others showed me.

I recall what it is like to seek therapy for anxiety.

I could have rationalized the symptoms of anxiety and depression I experienced throughout my life. However, as a Mexican-American woman, I knew I wanted something different and deserved better. Therapy served as a way for me to create the changes I needed to make to create the life I wanted.

Counseling is hard work and not a miracle cure. Yet, each hour I spent working on myself was sacred, indispensable, and full of possibilities. This doesn’t mean it was always fun. I came to appreciate that I needed to do the work to get where I wanted to be.

The change you want is possible. I understand you may feel tired, frustrated, vulnerable, or scared. I know I did.

Do not give up.

I recognize how challenging it can be to ask for help. It takes a lot of courage to seek help and take this first step towards reclaiming your life. Although it may feel scary, you are ready to embark on the next step in your journey, which is incredible. If you are motivated and committed to making a change, you are already on the right path and are ready to move toward living the life you want!

Your journey is just beginning. Please reach out if you have any questions about working with me, and I hope we meet soon.
